Immaturity may play a part, but so does an individual person's circumstance. Someone may not need the job, or may have a lot of friends, or may have a lot of men interested. In which case, he/she would have no reason to deal with b.s., however small. I know I don't want someone "trying" to be my friend for the sake of friendship; when he/she feels like walking away from it.

I too was raised in a 2 parent home (mom & dad married over 37 years this summer, 2 older brothers as another example of dealing with the world from an early age). I was also raised in a home where my parents were my roll models. I was only allowed maybe an hour or two of TV a day. Mom took my brothers and I to the park, museums, and the library on a daily basis. We read books (or just looked at the pics when we were too young to read). I am so grateful for that and plan to teach my kids in the same manner. I don't put the responsibility on the TV company, I put it on myself and my future husband to set the example.

With that said, even before BET was bought up by Viacom, their awards shows sucked. Production, the whole set up sucked in comparison to other awards shows. Partially because the station is so young in comparison to white-owned stations that have been around since TV was started and partially because of budget issues due to advertising, etc. It's a huge, smorgasboard of an issue!

I honestly would've preferred to have seen a tribute by Ginuwine before Chris Brown. Ginuwine is a lot closer in age to MJ and his moves seem more fluid and organic like MJ. That and he's put more years in the game in comparison to CB.

I do agree with ya tho, BET has a LOOONG way to go before it's a viable/respectable channel, if it ever will become one.

I have always considered buying the Nail Art pens by Sally Hansen. Now that I have read your post I won't consider anymore. I like the "Hard as Nails" polish that is made by her though. I could understand your irritation, but I am just grateful there is finally a Black Disney princess. If he is white, I think its pretty cool because for so long interracial relationships were taboo. I do understand where you are coming from though. It can give little Black girls the wrong impression about black love & make them think that white is "better".

I don't really find it offensive to be honest. I guess because I could really care or less. It WOULD have been nice of them to include some black characters in films that could coexist with other races, not just focus on either white or black separately, if you know what I mean.

That prince doesn't even look white, he looks spanish or something, or either a lightskinned black guy. I guess it's the way they toned his skin and toned his mouth to be slightly darkened.

I agree with ya 100% on this one! There are WAAAAY too many single black mothers trying to play duel roles. I'm so thankful I grew up with not only my parents, but two older brothers. i use to - and still - get a lot of surprised looks when i told people i grew up with both - married - parents as a kid and that they're still together. a true rarity in our communities. i'm so sick of going to baby showers where the man is non-existent. every baby deserves to be celebrated, but they deserve a devoted father too. not somebody that feels like they still need to sow their wild oats while creating babies all over the country!
